DESIGN

Cory Marie is a tenured designer with extensive experience with digital design, production, printmaking, and illustration. She is an expert on Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, and InDesign and uses a Wacom tablet for illustration. She has worked in a wide variety of industries for many different clients. Points of inspiration for Cory include folklore, vintage styles, nature, absurdity, abandoned places, mythology, urban landscapes, and the open road. Poster design and vintage styles are another focus in Cory’s graphic work. Many of her posters unite a love for graphic design, vintage poster art, and Art Deco/Nouveau styles.

Before departing for rural Appalachia, Cory worked on the creative team for Malibu Dream Girl, a swimwear company located near downtown Los Angeles. A creative director for the marketing department, she oversaw the brand websites, advertising campaigns, catalog designs, and marketing strategies. Working closely with the design and art departments, Cory Marie was also involved in the creative product design process researching trends and creating textile designs. Her designs have been seen at Zumiez, Wet Seal, Limited Too, Kohls, Mervyn’s, Macy’s, JC Penney, Nordstroms, Tilly’s, Sears, and swim boutiques around the world.

I am a photographer for the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC. The Folk School provides an endless source of interesting subjects and moments on a beautiful pastoral campus set in the southern Appalachian mountains. Photography is also an artistic passion that compliments my design work. Recently, I have enjoyed taking portraits and styling pin-up shoots. I find inspiration in historical periods, fashion, music, and subcultures. I shoot with a Nikon D300 and have a versatile eye to adapt to all sorts of situations and people. Do you have an idea for a photoshoot? Or do you need photography for your business? I’d love to talk to you! I am based in Murphy, NC, 2 hours away from Atlanta, Asheville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga.
